Born and raised in Cuba, Yenireli Perez de la Torre pursued her passion for medicine and became a dedicated doctor. However, life under a dictatorship brought challenges and limitations that stood between her and the future she envisioned.
Determined to seek a better life, Yenireli made the difficult decision to leave her homeland. Her journey was filled with uncertainty and danger, but her resolve never wavered. She arrived in the United States carrying hope and a fierce determination to rebuild her life.
Yenireli had crossed borders and left an established medical career behind, but she never abandoned her calling to care for others.
Starting Over in Hudson County
Beginning again in Hudson County meant navigating an unfamiliar system while overcoming language and cultural barriers. Despite her extensive medical background, Yenireli needed a practical path into the American workforce.
Urban WorkForce Advantage partnered with her to create a customized Employment Plan. Through the Pathways to Recovery Grant, she received the structure, guidance, and support needed to move forward with confidence.
Continuing Her Medical Calling
Yenireli pursued certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), a role that allowed her to return to patient care and continue helping others. Completing the training marked an important new beginning in her professional journey.
A Valued Healthcare Team Member
Today, Yenireli works at Hudson View Rehab Center, earning $20 per hour. The role represents far more than a job: it is a significant achievement after everything she overcame to rebuild her career. Her expertise, dedication, and compassion have made her a valued team member, and she continues to touch patients’ lives with kindness.
