When Monica Garcia came to the United States from Venezuela in 2016, she brought determination, resilience, and a deep desire to build a better life. Like many people pursuing a fresh start, Monica took on whatever work she could find while remaining focused on a future rooted in service, stability, and purpose.
Her community had been deeply affected by the opioid crisis, making access to stable career pathways and supportive opportunities especially important. While working in behavior therapy, Monica discovered how much she loved helping others and began imagining a future in healthcare.

A Life-Changing Turning Point
When Monica learned about the Pathways to Recovery Grant and its Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training opportunity, she saw a chance to change the course of her life. She enrolled with gratitude and determination, ready to transform her compassion for others into a lasting career.

Compassion in the Classroom and Beyond
Monica distinguished herself as an exceptional student. She excelled in the classroom and consistently demonstrated commitment, compassion, and professionalism. During clinical training, she stood out not only for her skills but also for the genuine warmth she brought to every interaction with residents.
A Healthcare Career With Purpose
After successfully completing the program, Monica began working as a CNA at Optima Castle Hill in Union City. Today, her work gives her both pride and purpose as she provides residents with daily care, affection, and companionship.
