Pathways to Recovery - Opioid Grant
Geraldine Arcia
A New Beginning in a New Land
Hudson County
In 2022, Geraldine Arcia arrived in the United States with a single goal in her heart: safety and a chance to rebuild her life. She left Venezuela alone, forced to escape the hardship and instability created under Maduro’s regime. The journey was arduous, and starting from scratch in a new country brought moments of fear and uncertainty. Yet Geraldine carried something stronger than fear—she carried hope.
During her first months in the United States, she worked tirelessly to adjust to a different language, a different culture, and the responsibility of supporting herself in an area highly affected by the opioid crisis. Geraldine wanted more than survival. She wanted stability, purpose, and a career she could be proud of.
Everything changed the day she discovered the Pathways to Recovery Program at Urban WorkForce Advantage.
Finding Structure and Support
From her first meeting with the Urban WorkForce Advantage team, Geraldine felt supported. The Pathways to Recovery (PTR) Program offered what she needed most: structure, guidance, and people who believed in her potential. Step by step, the program helped her strengthen her skills, build confidence, and understand the opportunities waiting for her in the healthcare field.
For Geraldine, this was more than training—it was a turning point.
Building a Healthcare Career
With dedication and the encouragement of her instructors, Geraldine completed her coursework and moved into the healthcare pathway, earning the credentials needed to begin a career in one of the most trusted professions. Soon afterward, she secured stable employment as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
A Future She Can Count On
Today, Geraldine stands on her own two feet with pride. She has a stable job, a meaningful role caring for others, and a sense of security she had not felt in years. Most importantly, she has a future she can count on.
The Power of Opportunity
Urban WorkForce Advantage and the Pathways to Recovery Program didn’t simply give Geraldine an education—they helped give her a new life. Her journey is a testament to resilience, courage, and the power of opportunity to change everything.
