Pathways to Recovery - Opioid Grant
Eliana Gil
From Struggle to Strength
Hudson County
Eliana Gil arrived in the United States with a suitcase full of hope and a heart full of courage. Fleeing the political and economic crisis under Nicolás Maduro’s regime in Venezuela, she came in search of safety, stability, and a better future. Starting over in a new country was not easy—but Eliana was determined to rebuild her life with dignity and purpose.
Through the Pathways to Recovery Grant at Urban WorkForce Advantage, she found a life-changing opportunity. The program offered her not only access to education but also personalized support, resources, and guidance.
“From the beginning, I felt like I was part of a family that believed in me.”
Preparing for a Healthcare Career
With the help of the Urban WorkForce Advantage team, Eliana enrolled in the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) training program. Despite the challenges of adjusting to a new language, culture, and healthcare system, she persevered. The training provided her with the clinical skills, professional knowledge, and confidence needed to enter the healthcare field.
From Surviving to Thriving
Today, Eliana is proudly certified as a CNA in New Jersey and works full-time at The Harbour View Senior Living, earning $20 per hour. More importantly, she is doing meaningful work—caring for seniors and giving back to the community that welcomed her.
“Becoming a CNA has changed my life. I finally feel secure, independent, and proud of what I do. I’m not just surviving anymore—I’m thriving.”
Determination Meets Opportunity
Her journey is a powerful reminder of what's possible when determination meets opportunity. Urban WorkForce Advantage is honored to have been part of Eliana's journey, and we can't wait to see what she accomplishes next.
